Recorded by Lino Hughes in 1983, “St. Martin Is My Home” is another unofficial anthem for the island. The refrain of “One island, one people, one destiny” is a popular expression to celebrate the unity of the island despite its two-nation political status.
Lino Hughes had a multi-decade career in music on St. Martin with bands including the Prickly Boys, the Creole Stars and Lino and the Hardway.
Well I can see that Lino put this island on the map musically, just as Bob Marley did to Jamaica, but what a shame he was only recognized after his death by his country, or may be never been, thanks to the radio station, that hight lighted his life’s achievement, we had a legend amongst us, that we know only after his death, but he will always be remembered as the HERO he was. R.I.P. Brother.
